Ken Chiarella, Chirag Bhagat and Stanley Edelman decided to run as independents in Monroe Township for many reasons. The main reason is to create positive change. We have a vision for Monroe that includes elected officials that have the citizens of Monroe as their number one commitment. Being an elected official in Monroe should not be about a state pension, a monthly stipend, a healthcare opt-out payment or a paycheck. It should be about doing what’s right for the people so that we can maintain our quality of life. Politics should not be about making a living, but should be about serving the people with a vision to make things better.
All of our candidates owns businesses and volunteer in the community in various ways. Ken Chiarella has also served as one of your Board of Ed members for the past 7 years. Ken has fought to bring the Board of Ed attorney position in-house and plans to do the same for the municipality with the positions of Township Engineer and Township attorney. Both companies that have the current contract in Monroe charge the taxpayers millions of dollars over the time that they have been contracted to service Monroe. We can save millions of dollars over the long term by bringing those positions in-house and getting rid of the contract services.
